DIN Flanged Soft Seated Gate Valve F4 Ductile Iron

The DIN flanged soft-seated F4 ductile iron gate valve provides isolation for compatible water and utility piping systems. It combines a strong ductile iron body with a resilient sealing arrangement and a short face-to-face installation length.

The gate moves perpendicular to the flow direction to open or close the passage. When fully open, it withdraws from the main flow path, providing relatively low flow resistance. The resilient sealing element deforms against the mating surface during closing to establish shut-off.

Key Features

  • Ductile Iron Body Construction: Provides mechanical strength and toughness for pressure-containing components. The specified grade should suit the operating pressure, temperature and installation requirements.
  • Resilient Sealing Arrangement: Uses an elastomeric sealing element to achieve shut-off through controlled compression. Sealing performance depends on the rubber compound, surface condition, operating conditions and specified leakage criteria.
  • F4 Short-Pattern Dimensions: The F4 designation corresponds to the short face-to-face arrangement commonly referenced as EN 558 Series 14. This installation length supports integration into compatible piping and replacement of existing F4 valves.
  • Low Flow Resistance When Fully Open: The gate retracts from the flow passage to reduce obstruction. Actual pressure loss depends on the bore geometry, valve size and operating flow rate.
  • DIN Flanged Connections: Provide detachable connections for installation and maintenance. Flange drilling, facing, pressure designation, gaskets and bolting should match the mating piping.
  • Isolation Duty: Intended primarily for fully open or fully closed operation. Prolonged throttling can expose the resilient sealing element to vibration, erosion and uneven wear.
  • Corrosion Protection: A suitable protective coating helps isolate the iron surfaces from the surrounding environment and operating fluid. Coating selection, preparation and inspection are important to service life.

Applications

  • Water Supply and Distribution: An option for isolating sections of water networks during operation, inspection or maintenance. Potable-water service requires confirmation of material suitability and applicable approvals.
  • Water Treatment Facilities: Suitable for consideration in compatible raw-water, treated-water and utility-water lines, taking account of treatment chemicals and water composition.
  • Industrial Cooling and Utility Systems: Can be considered for water-based services where the elastomer, coating and complete valve rating meet the operating requirements.
  • Selected Wastewater Services: May be considered after reviewing solids content, abrasiveness, chemical composition and the potential for debris to obstruct gate movement.
  • Marine Freshwater and Auxiliary Systems: An option for compatible shipboard freshwater and utility-water piping. Marine acceptance and any classification documentation should be confirmed for the intended installation.
  • Maintenance and Replacement Projects: Suitable for consideration where the existing valve’s F4 installation length, flange details, pressure rating and operating arrangement can be matched.

Materials and Construction

  • Body: The ductile iron body forms the main pressure boundary and flow passage. The exact material grade should be identified in the purchase specification.
  • Bonnet: Closes the upper body opening and supports the operating assembly. Its material, joint design and sealing arrangement should follow the approved construction drawing.
  • Gate and Resilient Sealing Element: The gate provides structural support, while the elastomer forms the closing seal. Confirm the gate material, extent of rubber coverage and rubber-to-metal bonding requirements.
  • Elastomer Compound: Select according to the fluid, temperature and chemical exposure. EPDM is commonly used in comparable water-service valves, but the supplied compound and its approvals must be confirmed for this product.
  • Stem and Stem Nut: Convert operating rotation into gate travel. Their materials should provide suitable strength, corrosion resistance and wear resistance. Confirm whether the selected valve uses a rising or non-rising stem.
  • Stem Seals and Bonnet Gasket: Limit external leakage around the stem and body-to-bonnet joint. Seal materials should be compatible with the fluid and operating conditions.
  • Protective Coating and Fasteners: Specify the internal and external coating system, coating thickness and fastener protection according to the installation environment.
