DIN Flanged Ball Valve 3-WAY Full Bore Bronze

The DIN Flanged Ball Valve 3-WAY Full Bore Bronze combines RG5 bronze construction with selectable flow paths for compatible water, seawater, oil and air systems. Available from DN15 to DN100 in PN16, it provides a practical arrangement for directing fluid between alternative branches, equipment connections or tank lines. L-port and T-port options allow the valve to be selected according to the required operating sequence.

Key Features

  • RG5 Bronze Pressure Boundary: The bronze body and bonnet provide a copper-alloy construction option for compatible marine and industrial services. Selection should account for water chemistry, temperature and adjacent piping materials.
  • Integrated Flow Selection: Three pipeline connections allow routing functions to be incorporated into one valve assembly, helping organize changeover and distribution duties.
  • Full-Bore Passage: The ball passage limits obstruction along the selected route. Flow capacity and pressure loss should be checked for each connection pattern, particularly where the fluid changes direction.
  • PTFE Seating: Soft seat rings establish the sealing interface around the stainless steel ball. Fluid cleanliness and seating-surface condition influence shut-off performance.
  • Flanged Installation: Raised-face connections permit detachable installation. Published specifications reference EN 1983, EN 558-1 and EN 1092-1.
  • Automation Interface: An ISO 5211 top flange supports actuator integration after confirmation of torque, travel angle and required operating positions.

L-Port and T-Port Selection

  • L-Port Configuration: An angled internal passage connects two ports at a time. It is commonly selected for switching a designated common connection between alternative branches.
  • T-Port Configuration: The internal passage can connect selected port pairs or all three ports, depending on the ball position and construction. This supports compatible distribution or combining duties.

Specify the required connections using a flow diagram. Confirm the common port, switching sequence and any temporary connection between branches during rotation. An all-ports-closed position must be confirmed for the selected arrangement.

Materials and Construction

  • Body and Bonnet: RG5 bronze.
  • Stem and Gland: Brass.
  • Ball: Stainless steel.
  • Seats, Packing and Gaskets: PTFE.
  • Listed Bolts, Nuts and Manual Operating Component: Stainless steel.

Confirm the brass and stainless steel grades when assessing the complete valve for the intended medium.

Typical Applications

  • Marine Service-Water Systems: Flow selection between compatible shipboard utility branches or equipment connections.
  • Freshwater Transfer: Directing water toward alternative tanks, distribution branches or service points.
  • Cooling-Water Circuits: Selecting compatible circulation routes or bypass connections where the hydraulic arrangement permits.
  • Oil Service Lines: Routing compatible oils after checking viscosity, temperature and sealing-material suitability.
  • Industrial Air Distribution: Selecting air-supply paths within the confirmed operating limits.
  • Copper-Alloy Pipework: Installations where bronze construction forms part of a coordinated piping-material specification.

Marine and Seawater Compatibility

Seawater suitability requires assessment of the complete assembly, including the brass stem and stainless steel ball. Confirm the brass grade and its resistance to dezincification wherever seawater exposure is possible.

Review salinity, pollutants, suspended solids, temperature and periods of stagnation. Local turbulence and excessive velocity can increase erosion-corrosion, particularly during partial opening.

Connections to dissimilar metals also require consideration of galvanic interaction. Adjacent materials, electrical continuity and exposed surface areas influence corrosion behaviour. Any protective measures should follow the project’s engineering requirements.

Operating and Installation Considerations

Confirm the permitted pressure–temperature limits for the assembled valve. PN16 alone does not establish the allowable working pressure at every temperature.

For automated operation, verify that actuator stops and position indication correspond to the approved flow diagram. Assess pressure differences between connected branches and potential surges during changeover.

Support and align all three pipe connections to avoid excessive loads on the body. Provide access for operation, flange-bolt removal and future servicing.

Drinking-water service requires separate confirmation of material compliance and applicable approvals. Marine classification documentation should be specified for the intended installation.
