DIN Flanged Ball Valve 2-PC Stainless Steel

The DIN Flanged Ball Valve 2-PC Stainless Steel offers full-bore isolation for process and utility pipelines where corrosion resistance guides material selection. Its two-piece construction combines a stainless steel housing and operating components with PTFE sealing elements. Listed body options include CF8, CF8M, CF3M and a 2205 duplex option, allowing the proposed configuration to be assessed against the actual fluid composition and service conditions.

Key Features

  • Application-Based Alloy Selection: Different stainless steel grades provide different corrosion characteristics. Specifying the body alloy enables a more precise assessment than selecting a valve by the description “stainless steel” alone.
  • Full-Bore Passage: The ball opening provides a relatively direct flow path when fully aligned with the pipe, helping preserve flow capacity across equipment isolation points and transfer lines.
  • Quarter-Turn Operation: Rotary movement opens or closes the passage, supporting manual operation or integration with a suitably selected actuator.
  • Two-Piece Assembly: The separable housing permits internal inspection and servicing after isolation, depressurization and appropriate dismantling.
  • Flanged Installation: Published specifications reference EN 1983 for design, EN 558-1 for face-to-face dimensions and EN 1092-1 for flanged ends.
  • Actuator Integration: An ISO 5211 mounting interface supports automation. Confirm operating torque, stem connection, differential pressure and cycling requirements when selecting the actuator.

Materials and Construction

  • Body and End Cap: Listed options are CF8, CF8M, CF3M and 2205.
  • Ball and Stem: Stainless steel; confirm their individual grades rather than assuming they match the body.
  • Seats: PTFE.
  • Body-Joint Gasket, Thrust Washer and Packing: PTFE in the published material schedule.
  • Gland, Locking Device and Listed Fasteners: Stainless steel.

Choosing the Stainless Steel Grade

  • CF8: A cast counterpart of Type 304, suitable for consideration in compatible, less aggressive environments. Confirm its resistance to the complete process fluid, including contaminants and cleaning chemicals.
  • CF8M: A cast counterpart of Type 316 containing molybdenum, which generally improves resistance to localized corrosion compared with the 304 family. Its suitability still depends on chloride concentration, temperature and other operating conditions.
  • CF3M: A low-carbon cast counterpart of Type 316L. The lower carbon content helps limit sensitization associated with certain thermal exposures, but does not provide universal resistance to corrosive fluids.
  • 2205 Duplex Option: Duplex 2205 can provide improved resistance to chloride-related corrosion mechanisms compared with conventional austenitic grades in appropriate conditions. For a cast valve body, confirm the applicable casting designation, material standard and heat-treatment requirements.

Typical Applications

  • Chemical Transfer and Process Lines: Compatible chemicals where the selected alloy and sealing materials meet the required concentration and temperature conditions.
  • Industrial Water Treatment: Process-water, filtration and treatment installations requiring a defined stainless steel material specification.
  • Chemical Dosing Equipment: Selected dosing duties after checking the reagent, concentration, temperature and compatibility of every wetted component.
  • Pulp and Paper Auxiliary Systems: Compatible utility and process-liquid lines, with separate assessment of solids, abrasion and chemical exposure.
  • Marine and Coastal Installations: Selected services where chloride exposure and external conditions have been evaluated for the proposed grade.
  • Process Equipment Packages: Isolation around pumps, filters, heat exchangers and skid-mounted assemblies.

Corrosion and Fluid Compatibility

Stainless steel corrosion resistance depends on its protective passive film and the surrounding environment. Assessment should include chemical composition, concentration, pH, chloride content, temperature and operating patterns.

Chloride-bearing fluids can cause pitting and crevice corrosion. Elevated temperatures can also increase susceptibility to chloride stress corrosion cracking in conventional austenitic grades. Deposits, stagnant conditions and crevices deserve particular attention during material selection.

Acid suitability must be established for the specific acid and concentration. Neither a 316-type designation nor PTFE seating establishes compatibility with every acidic medium. Cleaning and flushing chemicals should be included in the assessment.

Pressure, Temperature and Optional Configurations

The published range covers DN15–DN300 in PN16, with PN40 listed for DN15–DN100. Confirm the ordered pressure configuration and mating flange requirements.

Working limits depend on the complete assembly, including seats, packing and joint seals. Metallic-body temperature capability should not be used as the operating limit of the assembled valve.

A fire-safe version is listed as an option. Confirm its sealing arrangement, applicable test qualification and supporting documentation separately. Material certificates, positive material identification and any special corrosion-testing requirements should also be agreed before ordering.

Operating Practice

Use the valve primarily for on/off isolation. Sustained throttling can concentrate flow around the seats and accelerate wear. For automated liquid systems, assess closing speed and potential pressure surges.

Avoid contamination of stainless steel surfaces by carbon steel tools or grinding debris during handling and installation. Where cleaning or passivation is required, specify a suitable procedure compatible with the assembled valve.
