Threaded Ball Valve 3-PC Stainless Steel

The three-piece threaded ball valve combines full-bore flow with accessible construction for industrial equipment and utility pipework. Body options include stainless steel, cast carbon steel and ASTM A105 forged carbon steel, allowing material selection to follow the operating medium and piping specification. Female threaded connections provide compact equipment integration, while the separable centre section supports inspection and replacement of internal components.

Key Features

  • Three-Piece Construction: A central valve body connects to two threaded end sections. This arrangement facilitates access to the ball, seats and body seals. Whether the centre section can be removed while the ends remain installed depends on the confirmed construction and available clearance.
  • Full-Bore Passage: The ball opening aligns with the pipeline when fully open, helping limit obstruction and pressure loss through equipment connections.
  • Quarter-Turn Operation: A 90-degree rotation provides straightforward on/off isolation for local operation or an appropriately selected automated assembly.
  • BSPP Female Connections: The published end specification references ISO 228 parallel threads. Confirm the mating fitting and joint-sealing arrangement when integrating the valve into the pipeline.
  • Actuator Mounting Interface: An ISO 5211 top flange supports actuator installation after verification of operating torque, stem coupling and cycling requirements.
  • Design References: Published specifications identify ASME B16.34 and BS 5351. The applicable standard editions and inspection requirements should be agreed in the purchase specification.

Body Material Options

  • Stainless Steel: Listed grades include CF8, CF8M and CF3M. These options can be evaluated for compatible process liquids, water systems and chemical services. Selection should consider concentration, temperature, chlorides and cleaning chemicals.
  • Cast Carbon Steel: An option for compatible industrial fluids where the piping specification permits a cast carbon steel pressure boundary. Confirm the exact casting grade, corrosion allowance where applicable, protective finish and operating limits.
  • ASTM A105 Forged Carbon Steel: A forged carbon steel option for piping applications. Specify the material standard and required heat-treatment condition in the order. Forged construction alone does not establish the pressure or temperature rating of the assembled valve.

Internal Components and Sealing

The published stainless steel configuration lists CF8, CF8M or CF3M for the ball, stainless steel for the stem, and PTFE for the seats, joint gaskets, thrust washer and packing.

For cast carbon steel and A105 versions, confirm the complete material schedule, including end sections, ball, stem, bolting and seals. The selected body material does not determine the specification of every component.

Typical Applications

  • Industrial Utility Lines: Isolation of compatible water, air, oil and gas services using threaded connections.
  • Pump and Equipment Packages: Local shut-off around pumps, filters, dosing units and compact process assemblies.
  • Chemical Handling Systems: Selected duties using a verified stainless steel grade and compatible sealing materials.
  • Oil and Lubrication Circuits: Compatible services where viscosity, temperature and material requirements have been assessed.
  • Maintenance-Oriented Installations: Pipework where periodic inspection or seal replacement makes a separable body useful.
  • Selected Steam and Condensate Duties: Applications supported by a confirmed steam-service rating and suitable sealing configuration.

Pressure and Temperature Selection

The website lists DN15–DN100, with 1200 WOG for DN15–DN40 and 1000 WOG for DN50–DN100. Confirm the rating applicable to the ordered material configuration and operating temperature.

A WOG designation should not be treated as a steam rating. Hot-fluid and steam applications require the complete valve’s pressure–temperature data, including limitations of the PTFE seats and seals.

Use the valve primarily for on/off operation. Sustained throttling can accelerate seat wear, while abrasive or crystallizing fluids require additional assessment.

Threaded Installation and Maintenance

ISO 228 threads provide mechanical engagement; a pressure-tight assembly requires the specified sealing surfaces and suitable seal outside the threads. Confirm that the mating connection provides this arrangement.

Apply installation force at the designated wrench flats rather than through the handle. Support and align the pipework to avoid excessive loads on the end connections.

Before servicing, isolate, depressurize, drain and cool the assembly as required. Follow the approved disassembly sequence, fit the specified replacement seals, and verify operation and leakage performance before returning the valve to service.
