DIN Flanged Ball Valve 2-PC Bronze

The DIN Flanged Ball Valve 2-PC Bronze combines an RG5 bronze housing with a stainless steel ball and PTFE seats for pipeline isolation in compatible marine and industrial installations. Its copper-alloy construction offers a material option for systems where water chemistry, corrosion conditions and compatibility with adjacent pipework influence valve selection. Available in sizes from DN15 to DN300, the valve features a full-bore passage, raised-face flanges and an ISO 5211 actuator mounting interface.

Key Features

  • RG5 Bronze Housing: The body and end cap provide a copper-alloy pressure boundary for compatible services. Selection should consider the actual fluid composition and the complete assembly’s material specification.
  • Unrestricted Passage When Open: The full-bore arrangement keeps the flow path relatively straight, limiting pressure loss across the fully opened valve. This benefits circulation and transfer duties where available system pressure must be preserved.
  • Rotary Shut-Off Mechanism: A quarter-turn movement positions the ball to allow or interrupt flow, providing convenient operation at equipment connections and maintenance isolation points.
  • PTFE Sealing Components: PTFE seats establish contact with the ball, while PTFE packing and gaskets seal the stem and body joint. Their operating limits must be considered alongside those of the metallic components.
  • Separable Body Construction: The two-piece arrangement permits internal inspection and replacement of serviceable components after the valve has been safely isolated, depressurized and dismantled.
  • Standardized Connections: Published specifications reference DIN 3357 for design, EN 558-1 for face-to-face dimensions and EN 1092-1 for flanged ends. The ISO 5211 mounting interface supports appropriately sized actuation equipment.

Materials and Construction

  • Body and Cap: RG5 bronze.
  • Ball and Stem: Stainless steel; the supplied grades should be confirmed for the intended medium.
  • Seats, Body Gasket and Packing: PTFE.
  • Gland: Brass.
  • Listed Fasteners: Stainless steel.
  • Alternative Ball Option: A hard-chromed brass ball is listed as an option and should be evaluated separately for fluid compatibility.

Typical Applications

  • Shipboard Service and Auxiliary Lines: Isolation in compatible marine utility systems specifying bronze construction, subject to the vessel’s technical and classification requirements.
  • Freshwater and Service-Water Networks: Connections around pumps, filters, tanks and equipment requiring local shut-off.
  • Cooling-Water Installations: Compatible cooling circuits where the selected alloy, internals and seals suit the water chemistry and treatment programme.
  • Copper-Alloy Piping Systems: Installations where bronze is considered as part of a coordinated material-selection strategy.
  • Industrial Equipment and Utility Assemblies: Compatible liquid, air and gas duties within the confirmed pressure–temperature limits.

Selection for Marine and Seawater Service

Bronze construction can be appropriate for selected seawater applications, but suitability depends on more than the body material. Confirm the alloy specification, ball and stem grades, gland exposure and sealing arrangement against the intended service.

Assessment should consider salinity, temperature, pollutants, suspended solids and operating patterns. Local turbulence and high velocity can increase erosion-corrosion, particularly around partially opened valves. Extended stagnation also warrants review when evaluating stainless steel internals.

Where the valve connects to dissimilar metals, assess potential galvanic interaction across the assembled piping system. Adjacent materials, electrical continuity and exposed surface areas influence corrosion behaviour. Any isolation or corrosion-control measures should follow the project’s engineering requirements.

Pressure Rating and Operating Conditions

The published range includes PN25 for DN15–DN80 and PN16 for DN65–DN300. Confirm the required pressure configuration, flange drilling and installation dimensions for the selected size, particularly within the overlapping DN65–DN80 range.

Permissible working pressure depends on temperature and the complete valve construction. Provide the operating medium, design pressure, temperature and maximum differential pressure when requesting a quotation.

This valve is primarily intended for on/off operation. Prolonged throttling can concentrate velocity around the seats and accelerate wear. Closing speed should also be considered in liquid systems susceptible to pressure surges.

Drinking-water use requires separate confirmation of alloy compliance and applicable approvals. Marine classification, fire-safe performance and other project-specific qualifications should be specified and verified independently.
